In the wake of archaeological finds the Zlín district was found to be already inhabited during the Palaeolithic period. The district is located in the south-eastern part of Moravia and extends from the Morava River to as far as the White Carpathians Mountain Range on the border between Moravia and Slovakia. It covers the ethnographic regions of Valassko, Haná and Moravian Slovak. The district has several important mineral springs, e.g. in Luhacovice (where the healing springs were used as early as 1669), Kostelec u Zlína, Napajedla and Vizovice. Many popular holiday resorts are also found here, such as Pahrbek near Napajedla, Sterkoviste in Otrokovice, Drzkova in the Hostynske Hills, Luhacovice and its surrounding area with Pozlovice Dam, Vsemina, Slusovice with a 12-hole golf course and horse racecourse, and Jelenovská resort near Valasské Klobouky. Consequently, the district is and ideal area for holidays all year round.
