The district covers an area of 718,83 sq. km with a population of over 42 000 residing in 24 towns and villages. Jesenik is one of the smallest districts in the Czech Republic, situated in the northern corner of Moravia by the Polish border. The Jeseniky Mountains separate the district from Central Moravia. Three international, road border crossings and five small border crossings make it an easily accessible and attractive area for tourists. The district offers ideal conditions for hiking in summer and winter in the Jeseniky Mountains, down hill skiing in the Cervenohorske Sedlo pass and Ramzova, Ostruzna, Petrikov, Lipova Spa, cross-country skiing almost in the whole area of the region, hiking trails, sightseeing of many cultural monuments and natural places of interest, the possibility of learning the region from cycling tracks, swimming in many flooded quarries, trout fishing and pond fishing, hunting, cave excursions in Pomezi and Spicak (both with handicapped facilities), water sports at the nearby Polish lakes, around Nysa and Otmuchow. Furthermore, in the region are common spa traditions using the natural possibilities of mountain climate: Priessnitz Healing Spa (treatment of asthma, cardiovascular system, and nervous system disorders).
